Frequently Asked Questions
-
What clients do you see?
Brightside is able to support a range of different clients. This includes NDIS clients who are either self or plan managed. Brightside is also able to see clients privately, and clients that have an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC). A GP is able to provide their patients with an EPC if there is evidence of a chronic medical condition. This allows a child to be seen for 5 reduced speech therapy sessions in a calendar year. You may also be able to claim with your private health fund, depending on your level of extras cover.
-
What is the cancellation policy?
The cancellation policy at Brightside is 48 hours. This ensures that the therapist's time is respected and allows the practice to maintain efficient scheduling for other clients who need services. It also helps cover costs associated with preparing for the session, as the clinician will invest time and resources into each appointment. You will be offered a telehealth or phone call appointment in place of your session and the clinician is also able to create resources in this time if appropriate.
-
Can sessions be held at school?
Brightside is proud to offer sessions at your child's school, childcare or kindergarten, face to face or through telehealth. We are committed to providing flexible and accessible speech pathology services tailored to your family's needs. We understand that every child’s schedule and environment are unique, so we bring our expertise directly to where it’s most convenient for you, ensuring your child receives the best possible care in a setting where they feel comfortable and supported.
-
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral to attend speech pathology sessions at Brightside. Simply reach out to us to enquire about our waiting list and we’ll guide you through the process. Our goal is to make access to speech pathology services as straightforward as possible, so you can focus on supporting your child's communication and developmental needs without unnecessary barriers.
-
Can you assist with stuttering or feeding?
Brightside does not currently work with children who have fluency concerns (stuttering) or feeding concerns as their main difficulties. These areas require specialised expertise, and we want to ensure that your child receives the most appropriate care. We are happy to provide you with a list of trusted practices that specialise in fluency and feeding concerns, so you can find the right support tailored to your child's specific needs.
-
Does Brightside offer autism or ADHD assessments?
Brightside does not currently offer formal autism or ADHD assessments. However, we understand the importance of accurate diagnoses and are committed to supporting you in finding the appropriate resources. There are a number of private practices that offer this service, as well as The Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH) Child Development Unit (CDU). The public system provides assessment for no cost if the child has a Medicare card.
